  24.             The LiMB (LIsting of Molecular Biology  databases)  database
  25.             is  a  computer-based collection of information on molecular
  26.             biology and related databases.  LiMB is intended to  facili-
  27.             tate  locating  and  accessing these databases as well as to
  28.             provide an ``overview'' that will help in developing a  sys-
  29.             tematic,  coordinated  approach to designing, developing and
  30.             maintaining these databases.

  32.             Each entry in LiMB currently consists of 54 fields,  includ-
  33.             ing:  database  staff  names and addresses; database mainte-
  34.             nance hardware and software; scope of coverage and  database
  35.             goals; details about submission and access to the data sets;
  36.             database size; and types of data covered  by  the  database.
  37.             LiMB  entries  are based on questionnaires filled out by the
  38.             database managers or, in the absence of  a  completed  ques-
  39.             tionnaire,  on  secondary sources (e.g., a journal article).
  40.             LiMB is currently maintained in a relational DBMS.

  44.             LiMB is not available through direct network access.  It can
  45.             be sent via electronic mail.

  69.             LiMB Release 1.0 was issued in February, 1988.  Release  2.0
  70.             should  be  coming  out  in the early Fall of 1989.  LiMB is
  71.             available in flat file format in hardcopy, on a PC-formatted
  72.             floppy  disk or via e-mail.  Requests to receive LiMB can be
  73.             sent via e-mail, by phone or by U.S.  Post.  Please indicate
  74.             in  what form (hardcopy, floppy disk or e-mail) it should be
  75.             sent.
